Research Interests:

My main research interest is the field of solid state ionics, combining my interests of materials chemistry with solid state electrochemistry.  The main focus of my research has been the crystal structure - electrochemical property relationship in various energy materials.  In particular, since January 1999, I have been investigating new intercalation compounds for use as electrode materials in rechargeable lithium ioin batteries.

As part of the Specknet project I am working closely with the patner groups of the Consortium to develop a rechargeable power source suitable for use in the autonemous Specks of a wireless distributed computer network.  I am investigating the materials science aspects of new electrode materials, electrolytes and battery configurations for micro-battery applications, as well as establishing relationships with industrial partners to fabricate future highly specialised batteries, tailored specifically for the Specknet project.
